This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay

A friend lent me this book, and I was completely blown away by it and read it in 4 days.

I found myself laughing out loud, and being completely shocked and horrified by turns at the conditions NHS Junior Doctors are supposed to work under. Long hours for very little pay, no social life, and having to make life or death decisions with the very minimum of support.

Adam works his way up to SHO before an incident makes him realise that being a Doctor is not for him, and he leaves the NHS to become a script writer.

The writing takes the form of a diary, in which Adam puts down his thoughts of that day’s amusing, shocking or perturbing incidents. You feel like you are getting a very real insight into the life of an NHS Junior Doctor and it’s fascinating and disturbing by turns.

A book everyone should read - especially Jeremy Hunt who apparently has quite a number of copies!
